Christian social concerns
I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm still amazed by the tremendous double standard and hypocrisy that comes at Christianity's expense.
A big item in the news lately has been the controversial plan to build a mosque in New York City just 2 blocks from where the Sep 11 attacks occurred. Have you noticed, many who are now in favor of building the mosque because they claim to believe in religious freedom don't support religious freedom when it involves a high school student mentioning Jesus in a graduation speech or prayer? They are concerned the audience might be offended if the name of Jesus is mentioned, but don't seem nearly as concerned about the 9/11 victim's families being offended by the mosque. Is there any possible explanation for this other than big-time spiritual warfare? Please pray that the eyes of decision makers will be opened.
On Aug 4th a U.S. District Court judge ruled California's marriage protection amendment to the state constitution was in violation of the U.S. constitution. This amendment (Prop 8) would limit marriage to a man and a woman and was approved by the voters of California in 2008. This ruling will be appealed to the Ninth Court of Appeals and then, almost certainly, to the U.S. Supreme Court.
